Transmission/Engine Diagnosis
& Electrical Repair
What to look for when selecting
an ethical Transmission- Engine Diagnosis and
Electrical Repair shop:
Whenever that dreaded day arises
that your car makes a funny noise and you are pretty
sure it has a transmission problem it is very
difficult not to be taken advantage of in those
instances. You are actually at the mercy of the
mechanic.
A good mechanic will run his
business like a doctor’s office. There are some
services that you can call and find out how much it
is going to cost, like an oil change etc. If you are
having electrical or transmission problems the
extent of the problem can not be determined over the
phone. We would never think of calling a doctor and
asking how much is it to fix this pain in my chest.
If a mechanic diagnosis your car over the phone, it
may be a good idea to get a different mechanic. If a
mechanic gives you a price over the phone, in most
cases you are being low-balled just so you bring
your car into their shop.
A good ethical mechanic will tell
you that they will do a thorough diagnosis and find
the problem and from there we will determine a fair
price.
Also, an ethical mechanic will
diagnose the car and finish with the car in the same
condition as it was when it arrived.
An ethical mechanic will not play
any price games.
What to avoid when selecting a
business in this industry:
-
If a business gives prices on
the phone, you are probably being low balled.
-
Make sure you will receive the
car back in the same condition after the
diagnosis. Do not expect a free diagnosis, just
as you would not expect free office visits to a
doctor’s office. Remember, you get what you
pay for.
-
It is our opinions that since
transmission and electrical repair are very
complicated; it is wise to work with a locally
owned shop with hands on ownership. They have
more at stake with their reputation than a
franchise.
