Residential Mortgages

What to look for when selecting an ethical residential mortgage company:

When selecting any residential mortgage company select an company that:

  1. Have experience and a solid track record within the local mortgage industry.

  2. Does not pressure in any way.

  3. Has a physical local address.

  4. An ethical mortgage company will offer their license and a consumer should not have to ask for it.

  5. An ethical mortgage company is not afraid to tell you how they are compensated.

  6. An ethical mortgage lender is going to be asking a tremendous amount of questions. They also spend more time listening to your needs than selling.

When evaluating the residential mortgage industry the term “buyer beware” can not be emphasized enough. There are hundreds of mortgage companies so it is important to take your time.

What to avoid when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. Mortgage companies that are in a hurry to close the deal.

  2. Mortgage companies that do not have a long track record in the industry or the market.

  3. Mortgage companies that do not disclose how they are being paid. There is no such thing as a FREE loan.

  4. Mortgage Companies that do not give you everything in writing.

  5. If securing a loan through your builder or real estate firm is an option, please do the research. In most cases the consumer is overpaying for the loan, and is going to lose in the long run. It is always wise to get a 2nd opinion from an ethical mortgage company to see what all of your options are.

  6. Please be careful about false advertising in loans. It is important to get all of the fees in writing.

After interviewing and running an extensive background check the National Association Against Consumer Fraud has awarded the following business a listing in The Business A-List:

Why A Great Southern Mortgage Company was offered the opportunity to be a Business A-List participant?

It appears every time you turn on the television you see ads for refinancing your home with $0 closing costs, or buy a home from this builder and receive $5,000 worth of free upgrades. After researching the mortgage industry it became very clear that there is no such thing as $0 closing costs or free upgrades. The consumer is paying for everything and in most cases are overpaying.

In spending time with Jan Sylvester, Vice-President, it became very clear that A Great Southern Mortgage Company, is a Business A-List business. A Great Southern Mortgage Company will provide you an honest opinion, even if it means another lender can give you a better deal, you can’t ask for more than that.

Although there are many ethical mortgage companies doing fine work, it can not be emphasized enough to get a 2nd opinion. After all in most cases your home is your largest purchase so spend the time and do the research.
