Heating and Air Conditioning

What to look for when selecting an ethical heating and air conditioning contractor:

When selecting any contractor to do work on your next heating and air conditioning project you should select a contractor that:

  1. Shows you their contractor’s license before being asked.

  2. Explains the need to verify that their contractor’s license is legitimate.

  3. Shows you a copy of their insurance cover letter.

  4. Verify and actually call references.

  5. Ask how they handle problems and complaints.

  6. Understand the warranty completely.

  7. Get everything in writing, make sure what is in the contract is actually what is going into your business.

  8. Never be pressured into making a decision today.

The important thing to understand about a commercial contractor is to make sure that you are comfortable with the subcontractors. A commercial contractor is only as good as their subcontractors.

What to avoid when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. Contractors that do not show you there license and insurance policy.

  2. Contractors that play price games.

  3. Contractors that will not provide you a detailed estimate.

  4. Companies that ask for excessive deposits.

  5. Contractors that apply pressure.

  6. Contractors that will not let you call customers. Most happy clients are happy to talk.

  7. You get what you pay for. If you want qualified and licensed subcontractors, you may need to pay a little more, but in most cases it is money well spent.

  8. Contractors that make guarantees that appear too good to be true.

  9. Salespeople that do not spend enough time checking the entire house, measuring and are only interested in the sale.

  10. It is our opinion to stay away from companies where the sales people are not qualified in heating and A/C. If the salesperson is incorrect you will only be replacing the unit shortly or you overpaid for a larger unit than needed.

  11. Be careful with maintenance agreements, many sound good, but companies end up replacing parts annually for an additional fee that do not need to be replaced at all. If the price of the maintenance agreement is low, there is a reason for that, you will be paying more later.

After interviewing and running an extensive background check the National Association Against Consumer Fraud has awarded the following business a listing in The Business A-List:

Allen Kelly & Company

Why Allen Kelly & Company was offered the opportunity to be a Business A-List participant?

There are many general contractors in the area that we felt were good ethical builders and many were qualified to handle most heating and air conditioning projects. After spending time with Mr. and Mrs. Kelly, the owners, it is obvious how important ethics was in building their business. The business has grown in over 20 years from working out of their house, to having over 100 employees working out of a tremendous facility off of Tryon Road. It is a very comforting feeling knowing that if there is ever a problem, you can pick up the phone and call Mr. or Mrs. Kelly.
