Furniture Sales

What to look for when selecting an ethical furniture retailer:

After spending time researching the furniture sales industry we have learned a few things within the industry that we feel will benefit the consumers buying decisions. As with all retail purchases first and foremost the consumer must like the piece of furniture that they are purchasing. Once the style is decided, the consumer must determine where they are going to purchase the furniture.

  • When buying any furniture, make sure you see the manufacturer’s specs on the piece. That way you are sure you are getting what you are paying for. If a store is not willing to show you there probably is a reason.
  • Make sure that you completely understand the warranty. If you are only receiving a manufacturers warranty make sure that the company is stable and the farther away the more difficult it may be to correct a problem.
  • I’m sure we are all aware of the “Going out of business” sales in the furniture industry. They appear almost every weekend. If your manufacture is in China or even California and the store goes out of business. You may pay more to ship your furniture to the manufacturer than it is to replace.
  • Make sure that the people delivering the furniture are store employees and insured. If a delivery person hurts their back, while moving furniture in your home or office you may be liable. Why take that risk?
  • If purchasing over the internet, you may save a little money up front, BUT if there is ever a problem, you most likely will not be happy.

It is always wise to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples and whatever store that you purchase from has a knowledgeable staff and a long track record in the community.

What to avoid when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. Stores that can not show you the product specs on the furniture.
  2. Stores without an in house warranty to protect the consumer in case the manufacturer is not around.
  3. Stores without a knowledgeable and professional staff.
  4. Stores without a track record in the community.
  5. Be careful when purchasing out of state or from places without a permanent storefront.
  6. You get what you pay for. If you want quality furniture and professional service, you may need to pay a little more, but in most cases it is money well spent.
  7. Stores that can not prove that there delivery people are not insured by the store. This is very important that most consumers never think about.
