Wedding Planner

What to look for when selecting an ethical Wedding Planner:

The first point to hit on when it comes to talking with a wedding planner is what type of payment they accept. Never assume that they will take credit cards. Some of them do not. Ask about a payment schedule so you will have an idea of payments before signing a contract. Its standard in this industry that all fees are paid in full before the wedding takes place. Find out exactly what a wedding planner does (job title, full description of services) and decide if you feel you need one.

  1. Look for a company that fully discloses their schedule of fees.

  2. Look for a company that listens to your ideas fully before offering their expertise.

  3. Look for a company that is professional, organized, tasteful and courteous to your wishes. This is about your wedding not the planner's creative knack.

  4. Look for a company that will work within your budget. Planners come in all shapes, sizes and price ranges. More expensive does not always mean better quality. However, inexpensive does not always mean better either. Look for someone that you have a good connection with and feel comfortable.

  5. A professional wedding planner can make your dreams come true, no matter your budget. They will control all aspects of your wedding including food, service, music, wait staff, parking, and even a carriage ride in the park if that's on your list.

  6. Find reputable wedding planning vendors. Check out the Association of Bridal Consultants website for options. Always check out credentials and references.

  7. A professional wedding planner will help you prioritize your wedding. If you can't afford everything on your list you should at least be able to afford the most important.

  8. Make sure your wedding planner works for you. They can help you negotiate price and options in your favor.

  9. Look for a company that will give you a detailed itemized contract.

  10. In most cases, select a wedding planner that is located in the area of your wedding. They are much more familiar with the quality and pricing of vendors in that area.

  11. Look for a company that will let you go to a wedding and watch them set it up. Keep in mind, you are not allowed to stay for the wedding.

  12. Look for a company that will let you sample food and will show you samples of what you will be getting from the vendors. You want no surprises on your wedding day!

  13. Look for a company that will give you referrals.

Questions to ask when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. How many weddings have you done?

  2. How many weddings have you planned in my theme?

  3. Do you have a specialty?

  4. Is this your full time profession?

  5. Do you have a physical Location?

  6. How many wedding packages do you have?

  7. Do you have a multitude of vendors to choose from?

  8. What is your payment policy?

  9.  What is your cancellation policy?

  10. Are you licensed and insured?

  11.  Inquire about your wedding planner's years of experience, samples of their work, and their packages and rates?

  12. Will you work within my budget?

  13. Will you let me call referrals?
