Plastic
Surgeon
What
to look for when selecting an ethical Plastic
Surgeon:
-
Make sure they operate in
accredited medical facilities and have hospital
privileges if they perform office-based
procedures.
-
Select a Physician that
participates in continuing medical education
requirements, including standards and
innovations in patient safety.
-
Make sure the Physician
personally meets with you to explain the entire
process.
-
Choose a Physician that clearly
explains your options. There are usually
different options and procedures available.
-
Do they openly discuss the risks
of the surgery, or do they hide information
about the surgery to make you more comfortable?
-
Do they give you adequate time
to make an informed decision about the proposed
procedure and provide you with written
literature on discussed procedures?
Questions
to ask when selecting a business in this industry:
-
Are you an ASPS Member Surgeon?
-
At which hospital do you have
privileges to perform this procedure?
-
Is the surgical facility
accredited?
-
How many procedures of this type
have you performed?
-
Am I a good candidate for this
procedure?
-
What are the risks involved with
my procedure?
-
How long of a recovery period
can I expect, and what kind of help will I need
during my recovery?
-
Will I need to take time off
work? If so, how long?

After interviewing and running an
extensive background check the National Association
Against Consumer Fraud has awarded the following
business a listing in The Business A-List:

Mark
D. McDonough, M.D., P.A.
615
Princeton Street Suite 540
Orlando, FL 32803

With the
unique perspective of a former patient, Dr. Mark D.
McDonough emphasizes the need to restore, maintain
and improve the body, mind and spirit. His
philosophy regarding cosmetic surgery is
conservative. Patients understand that sometimes
less is more--they don't want that "operated
on" look. Dr. McDonough and his team understand
that each patient's needs are unique, and they're
committed to providing individualized attention to
all of their patients.
A highly
skilled surgeon, Dr. McDonough is adept at cosmetic
procedures such as breast augmentation, facelifts,
brow lifts, eyelid surgery, facial implants,
abdominoplasty, and liposuction/body contouring. He
also specializes in post bariatric surgery,
performing reconstructive procedures on patients
following excessive weight loss from gastric bypass
or banding.
He
frequently employs less invasive procedures such as
lip augmentation and the use of injectables such as
Botox, Hylaform, Juvederm, Radiesse and collagen.
His research in burns and skin care led to the
development of a private label line of skin
rejuvenation products. Special services include
massage therapy, vitamin and nutritional counseling,
and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
For Dr.
McDonough, choosing a career in plastic and
reconstructive surgery was a natural progression
born of his experiences earlier in life. "My
experience as a patient influenced the way I
practice medicine," he says. "The bottom
line is, I can empathize with my patients. However,
I also realize that everyone's journey is their
own."
As a
teenager, Dr. McDonough sustained second- and
third-degree burns over 65 percent of his body in a
home fire that claimed the lives of his mother and
younger brother. After enduring 30 reconstructive
surgeries, he decided to become a surgeon. Dr.
McDonough now specializes in burn reconstructive
surgery and finds it most rewarding.
A native
of Ohio, Dr. McDonough graduated from Cleveland
State University with a degree in physical therapy.
He established a rehabilitation practice in Orlando
providing physical therapy to patients with problems
including burn injury and neurological and
orthopedic trauma. After eight years as a practicing
physical therapist, he returned to medical school,
earning his medical degree at Case Western Reserve
University. He continued his training in general
surgery at the University of South Florida, followed
by a burn fellowship and completion of plastic
surgery training at Vanderbilt University.
Recently,
Dr. McDonough accepted a position as adjunct
clinical professor at the University of Central
Florida. He teaches courses about burn trauma as
well as wound evaluation and management.
Although
most of Dr. McDonough's patients are women, men
comprise about 20 percent of his clientele. For the
most part, his male clients seek eyelid surgery,
liposuction and good skin care. "Everyone in
Florida should be on a good physician-prescribed
skincare program," says Dr. McDonough.
