Residential
/ Commercial Landscaping
What to look for when
selecting an ethical Landscaping Company:
-
Check
for a permanent place of business. Make sure
they are licensed properly.
-
Find
out how long the company has been in business.
Ask the company to show you proof of Insurance.
Ask to see Certificates of liability coverage
and workers' compensation insurance.
-
Ask
for references and visit some of the locations
they completed. Talk with past customers to see
if they were satisfied. Visiting locations will
possibly give you some great ideas.
-
Look
for a company that will listen to your needs and
spend time educating you on the many different
options available to you within your budget.
Make sure they print a computerized or well
drawn layout of how your landscaping will look
when it's completed.
-
Look
for a company that will tell you where their
plants and trees come from. Are they indigenous
to your region? Also, what type of warranties if
any, come with the plants and trees?
-
Look
for a company that fully explains the care
required to maintain your landscape.
-
Look
for a company that does criminal background and
drug testing on their employees.
-
Look
for a company which provides a written itemized
contract on company stationary detailing what
you'll receive. It should include price, time
required, details of plants used, proposed
design, terms of payment, maintenance, and what
your warranties are.
-
Ask
prospective companies what types of training and
certifications they have? Have they won any
special awards?
What to avoid when selecting a company in this industry:
-
Companies
that show up in unmarked or with cheap signage
on their vehicle.
-
Companies
that do not have a physical location.
-
Companies
without a track record or refuse to give you
solid referrals with addresses and phone
numbers.
-
Companies
that ask you to make out a check to a person not
the company.
-
Companies
that ask for large deposits.
-
Companies
that do not provide you proof of insurance and
licensing.
-
Companies
that do not appear professional.
-
Companies
that apply pressure on you to purchase today.
-
Use
sound judgment. If someone promises you the
world at a very cheap price, you'll probably get
what you pay for.
-
Companies
that do not do criminal background checks on
their workers.
We recommend taking pictures of the project before it starts and throughout the process to document everything. If there are any issues during the course of the work, you have information to back up your complaint. It’s always a good idea to be involved in your landscape design and throughout the process.
