We at the NAACF feel what we are doing is
of the utmost importance. We are mounting a three step process against
consumer fraud in your local community. We are very aware within every
industry there are honest ethical companies that play by the rules and
provide quality products and services to consumers. Unfortunately, there
are also companies that are not qualified, mislead consumers, take
shortcuts or take advantage of consumers for financial gain.
Step 1: The NAACF personally
interviewed a multitude of business owners face to face to determine what
is really going on within their own industry. There was no hidden agenda
and all the interviews were confidential and designed to give us an
accurate picture of each industry. We compiled the information from the
interviews in each industry and determined for each industry, what we
thought consumers should look for when selecting a company, pertinent
questions to ask prospective companies and in certain industries what to
avoid when selecting a company. Click on the industry links below to
view our information on each industry. We will continually up-date this
information and add new industries as we forge ahead with our mission.
Step 2: We interviewed thousands of
consumers to determine what they look for when selecting a business to
provide a product or service. We also wanted to know what the consumers
thought process was at each stage of the buying cycle (selection of
company).
What we have learned from our interviews
with Businesses and Consumers:
From Business Owner Interviews:
Note: Each industry is unique and has specific valuable information
provided in the links below.
- On average most business owners believe
73% of the work being done in their industry is not of the highest
quality.
- Eighty-one percent of the business
owners believe that the public is being intentionally or
unintentionally mislead during the sales process.
- Almost 100% of the business owners in
every industry believe asking for a price quote over the phone is
doing a disservice to the ethical businesses in their industry and
the prices quoted over the phone are mostly "low ball"
prices anyway.
- Very rarely is a business ever
asked to prove their qualifications, licenses, insurance etc.
- Very rarely does the public call
references or do the research necessary to protect themselves.
From the Consumer Interviews:
- Eighty-nine percent of consumers
believe what they are being told over the phone.
- Eighty-four percent of consumers do
not call and verify references.
- Fifty-seven percent of consumers would
pay a premium if they knew for sure there was a difference in service
and/or quality.
- Ninety-eight percent of consumers would
not take the risk of hiring uninsured workers if they were aware.
- Only 2% of consumers ask
businesses to prove their qualifications, license and insurance.
- Eighty-one percent of people ask price
questions over the phone because they are not sure what to look for
when selecting a business.
Step 3: We gathered what we learned from
our interviews with consumers and businesses and compiled this information
to provide consumers with essential information to enable them to properly
select and research ethical businesses in each industry. We also selected
a qualified background approved business for each industry and market from
our interviews who were interested in helping us educate consumers and
businesses in their industry. Therefore, helping consumers one business at
a time!
