Air Conditioning & Heating

What to look for when selecting an ethical Air Conditioning & Heating Company:

  1. Trust, you can tell a lot about any contractor by how they deal with you before you sign a contract. Make sure you feel comfortable with the person in front of you before making a buying decision.

  2. Look for a company with a proven track record.

  3. Ask to see proof of their state contractor's license and make sure it's current.

  4. Don't hesitate to ask the contractor for proof of all the insurances they carry.

  5. Make sure they show you proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance to protect you if your property is damaged or if someone is injured working on your property.

  6. A good contractor should educate you enough to make a wise decision.

  7. Look for a company that listens to you and thoroughly answers your questions.

  8. Look for a company that takes their time and thoroughly checks your entire system.

  9. Look for a company that does not pressure you into a buying decision.

  10. Don't accept a verbal estimate. Estimates should be detailed and in writing on company stationary.

  11. Don't ever pay in cash or pay in full up front.

  12. Don't think you've discovered a great bargain if you get a bid that is substantially lower than other bids. Remember, you get what you pay for. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

  13. Look for a company that has a physical location, uniformed technicians and logos on their vehicles.

Questions to ask when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. Can the company prove their insurance?

  2. Is the company licensed by the state? Have them show you the license.

  3. How long has the company been in business?

  4. How long will it take to complete the job? If you contract for an entire system it should take one to two days.

  5. Is the company available evenings and weekends with call takers and technicians to handle any service calls or emergencies?

  6. Does the company survey customers after the work is completed to find out the level of customer satisfaction?

  7. Does the company provide workers compensation insurance on its employee's?

  8. Does the company do criminal background checks on all employees before hiring them and continue with random tests throughout their employment?

  9. What maintenance should I perform on my system?
