Tree Service

What to look for when selecting an ethical Tree Service Company:

  1. Check for a permanent place of business, telephone number and a business license. A professional tree company will have these readily available.

  2. Look for a company that has decent looking trucks and equipment with lettering on the vehicle.

  3. Don't hesitate to ask for proof of all the insurances they carry. Ask to see copies of both their liability coverage and his workers' compensation certificates. This is very dangerous work. Do not hire someone who is unlicensed and uninsured.

  4. Look for a company that does not ask for deposits. No money should exchange hands until all work is complete.

  5. Insist on a written proposal on a preprinted estimate form and examine it for complete descriptions of the work and specifications, including approximate starting and completion dates and payment procedures.

  6. Have the company explain their quality control procedures.

  7. Look for a company with a proven track record that allows you to call references to verify their work.

  8. Professionalism is very important; look at how the company represents itself during their first impression with you.

  9. Tree Removal can be very dangerous work. We do not recommend watching from a close distance and please remove children from the area.

  10. Look for a company with a ISA Certified Arborist on staff.

Questions to ask when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. What kind of debris will be left on my property, and what kind of clean-up procedures does your company follow?

  2. How long have you been in business?

  3. Have you worked in my neighborhood before?

  4. How long will this job take?

  5. Are you and your workers properly insured?

What to avoid when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. Companies that subcontract out all of their work.

  2. A company that asks for a deposit before starting a job.

  3. A company that needs a decision on the first visit.

  4. A company that hand writes an estimate on plain paper.

  5. Avoid a company that doesn't bring professional equipment and company trucks to the job.

  6. Definitely avoid a company that will not show you proof of insurance.
