Septic Services

What to look for when selecting an ethical Septic Services Company:

  1. Check for a permanent place of business, telephone number and a business license.

  2. Make sure the company has a state licensed Contractor.

  3. Look for a company that will let you meet them at their place of business.

  4. Look for a company with a proven track record. Check to see if they have a web site.

  5. Look for a company that will show you proof of insurance. General Liability and Workers' Compensation. If they use subcontractors have them show you proof of insurance.

  6. Look for a company that will give you a detailed written proposal on company letterhead and examine it for complete descriptions of the work and specifications, including approximate starting and completion dates and payment procedures. Make sure the price is all inclusive.

  7. When installing a drain field or septic service, ask the company if a state licensed contractor will be physically present at the installation.

  8. Look for a company with a proven track record that allows you to call references to verify their work.

  9. Professionalism is very important; look at how the company represents itself during your initial meeting.

  10. Look for a company that evaluates your whole septic system if you have a problem.

  11. Look for a company if you need a new septic system that explains the Wekiva Basin Act. This legislation is pending and could require you to go to a more expensive ATU system. It's required now sometimes if you live in an environmentally protected area.

  12. If you are having your septic system drained we recommend you being there while they do it if at all possible. Some unethical companies just remove the liquids and not the solids at the bottom of your septic system.

  13. Look for a company that educates you on how your system works. Many consumers take their septic system for granted and when a problem arises they are shocked at the cost of replacement or a new pump.

  14. If you need a new pump or system look for a company that fully explains their warranty on the system and the pump.

  15. Be aware there are some unethical companies in this industry that will sell you more than you need. If you are unsure or if you have had no problems with your system get a second opinion.

  16. Check to see if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau, and what their track record is.

Questions to ask when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. What kind of debris will be left on my property, and what kind of clean-up procedures does your company follow?

  2. How long have you been in business under this name in Florida?

  3. Will you give me referrals with phone numbers?

  4. Will you show me proof of insurance?

  5. What type warranty do I receive if I need a new pump or system?

  6. Do you subcontract out your work, or will you bring only employees to my job site?

  7. Do you have a state licensed contractor on site if installing a new drain field?

  8. Do you take the time to educate customers on their system if requested?

  9. What professional organizations do you belong to?

  10. Will you fully explain any warranties to me?

What to avoid when selecting a business in this industry:

  1. Companies that do not have a proven track record.

  2. Companies without a physical location.

  3. Companies that will not show you proof of insurance.

  4. A company that pressures you to replace your system immediately if you have not had problems.

  5. A company that does not give you a detailed itemized estimate on company letterhead.

  6. Companies that ask for deposits of over 50%. Before you give a deposit on a new drain field check the companies refund policy. This is important because the price can change after the septic company goes to pull the permit and the government agency requires certain stipulations.
