Plumbing
What to look for when selecting an ethical
Plumbing Company:
-
Trust,
you can tell a lot about any contractor by how
they deal with you before you sign a contract.
Make sure you feel comfortable with the person
in front of you before making a decision.
-
A
good contractor should educate you enough to
make a wise decision.
-
Look
for a company that listens to you and thoroughly
answers your questions.
-
Check
for a permanent place of business, telephone
number and a business license.
-
Check
and write down their state contractor's license
number. Check with the state and make sure the
number matches the Contractor's name and address
and that it's valid.
-
Don't
hesitate to ask the contractor for proof of all
the insurance they carry.
-
Make
sure they show you proof of general liability
and workers' compensation insurance to protect
your property and if someone is injured while
working on your property.
-
Look
for a company that will provide you references
if asked.
-
Look
for a Company that does not ask for cash or to
pay up front. Ask if they take credit cards even
if you don't plan on using one.
-
Ask
how they handle problems and complaints should
one arise.
-
Look
for a company that has uniformed technicians and
decent logos on their vehicles.
-
Look
for a company that will thoroughly explain their
warranty on labor and materials.
Questions to ask when selecting a business in this industry:
-
Can
the Company prove their insurance?
-
Is
the company licensed by the state? Have them
show you the license. Make a copy of it.
-
How
long has the company been in business under that
name?
-
How
long will it take to complete the job?
-
Does
the company provide workers' compensation
insurance on its employees? Ask if they use
subcontractors? If they do, make sure they are
insured.
-
Does
the company carry general liability insurance?
-
Does
the company do a criminal background check on
all employees before hiring them and continue
with random tests throughout their employment.
What to avoid when selecting a business in this
industry:
-
Avoid
a company that will not provide references for
their work.
-
Always
avoid a company that asks you to pull your own
permit, even if it will save you money in doing
so. License and proof of insurance is required
to pull permits. If they are asking you to do it
yourself, it is a tell tale sign they are not a
legitimate company.
-
Avoid
a company that does not take care of your house
when they are in it.
-
Avoid
a company that does not give you a detailed
written contract, including warranty of parts
and labor.
-
You
get what you pay for. If you want qualified and
licensed contractors, you may need to pay a
little more, but in most cases it is money well
spent.
