Plastic Surgeon

What to look for when selecting an ethical Plastic Surgeon:

  1. There is no substitute for an ASPS Member Surgeon who is Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

  2. Make sure they operate in accredited medical facilities and have hospital privileges if they perform office-based procedures.

  3. Select a Physician that participates in continuing medical education requirements, including standards and innovations in patient safety.

  4. Make sure the Physician personally meets with you to explain the entire process.

  5. Choose a Physician that clearly explains your options. There are usually different options and procedures available.

  6. Do they openly discuss the risks of the surgery, or do they hide information about the surgery to make you more comfortable?

  7. Do they give you adequate time to make an informed decision about the proposed procedure and provide you with written literature on discussed procedures?

Questions to ask when selecting a business in this industry:

  3. At which hospital do you have privileges to perform this procedure?

  4. Is the surgical facility accredited?

  5. How many procedures of this type have you performed?

  6. Am I a good candidate for this procedure?

  7. What are the risks involved with my procedure?

  8. How long of a recovery period can I expect, and what kind of help will I need during my recovery?

  9. Will I need to take time off work? If so, how long?
