Pest Control

What to look for when selecting an ethical Pest Control Company:

  1. An ethical company will look and act professionally when coming into your house.

  2. Look for a company that has nice lettering on their vehicles and technicians that are uniformed.

  3. Look for a company that's open to answering all of your questions and educates you to prevent further problems with pests.

  4. Compare prices and service. Remember, the cheapest isn't always the best option.

  5. Make sure all the terms of the contract are understood before any work is done. Make sure the contract contains the company name on stationary, length of service, price and what services are to be performed.

  6. Make sure to ask your pest control company if you can see their liability insurance to cover issues like staining of carpet or accidental breakage.

  7. Ask to see proof of workers' compensation insurance to protect you if someone is injured while working on your property.

  8. Always make sure to get a written contract. The contract should cover price, number of treatments, and a full listing of chemicals that will be used in your house.

  9. Look for a company that does criminal background checks and drug testing on their employees.

  10. Look for a company that will show you their license number and ID card from the Department of Agriculture.

Questions to ask when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. How will my family and pets react to your chemicals?

  2. Do the proposed techniques fit your lifestyle?

  3. How long have they been in business?

  4. What type of training do their technicians have?

  5. Ask how long the technician has been with the company?

  6. If you are asked to complete preventative maintenance between visits, would you be willing to do them?

  7. Will they show you how to prevent insect issues or just continue to treat them?

  8. Do you offer monthly, quarterly, and yearly options; or can you only call when you have pest control issues?

  9. Do they offer outside only pest control, so treatments can be done even if you are not home?

  10. Are there penalties if you cancel?

  11. Do they only offer one type of treatment? Do they keep the labels for their products on hand?

  12. Do they charge to come to your home if you still have a problem or one develops if their treating your property on a regular basis?

  13. Do you do criminal background checks on their employee?

What to avoid when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. Don't judge a company by there website, a flashy website doesn't mean they are a reliable company.

  2. Beware of a company that doesn't guarantee their work.

  3. If you are told your problems will be solved on the first visit, it's probably too good to be true.

  4. Do they only offer one type of treatment?

  5. Beware of sales persons quoting you service without detailing it contractually.
