Garage Doors

What to look for when selecting an ethical Garage Door Company:

  1. Look for a company that explains the need to verify that their license is legitimate.

  2. They should show you a copy of their insurance cover letter.

  3. Make sure they show you proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance to protect you if your property is damaged or a worker is injured on your property. Request a copy of their certificates for your records.

  4. Verify and actually call references, not just the last three customers.

  5. Ask how they handle problems and complaints.

  6. Get everything in writing on company stationary. Make sure what is in the contract is actually what is going into your home or business.

  7. Make sure the quote is an all inclusive price before signing any contract, to avoid hidden charges.

  8. Find out if the technician is commissioned based.

  9. Never be pressured into making a decision today, you may be offered incentives to hurry and sign a contract. Today's price should be the same as tomorrows.

  10. Ask about permits for installing your garage door. If you need a new garage door or your existing garage door replaced, you need to have a permit. Never work with a company that asks you to pull a permit.

  11. Make sure that the product meets wind code.

What to avoid when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. A company that will not show you proof of insurance. If someone is injured on the job and is not insured, the consumer can be liable. Why take that chance?

  2. Companies that play price games. Do not trust price quotes over the phone. In many cases you are being low-balled so the company can get in the door.

  3. Companies that will not provide you a detailed estimate on company stationary.

  4. Companies that ask for excessive deposits.

  5. Companies that apply pressure.

  6. Companies that will not let you call past customers.

  7. You get what you pay for. If you want a qualified and licensed specialist, you may need to pay a little more, but in most cases it is money well spent.

  8. It is our opinion to stay away from companies where the sales people are not qualified garage door technicians.

  9. It is also our opinion to stay away from companies and individuals that do not specialize solely in Garage Doors.

  10. Stay away from a company that asks you to pull a permit or does not bring it up if you are having a new garage door installed or your existing one replaced.
