Commercial
/ Residential Electrician
What to look for when
selecting an ethical Electrician:
-
They should show you their contractor’s license before being asked.
-
Explains the need to verify that their contractor’s license is legitimate. Make a copy of the license and check it with the appropriate state
agency.
-
Trust, you can tell a lot about any contractor by how they deal with you before you sign a contract. Make sure you feel comfortable with the person in front of you before making a buying
decision.
-
Look for a company with a proven track
record.
-
Look for a company that shows you a copy of their insurance cover letter.
-
Make sure they show you proof of general liability and workers’ compensation insurance to protect you if your property is damaged or if someone is injured working on your property.
-
Verify and actually call references.
-
Ask how they handle problems and complaints.
-
A good contractor should educate you enough to make a wise decision.
-
Look for a company that listens to you and thoroughly answers your
questions.
-
Don’t accept a verbal estimate. Estimates should be detailed and in writing on company stationary.
-
Get everything in writing. Make sure what is in the contract is actually what is going into your home or business.
-
Never be pressured into making a decision
today.
-
Don’t think you’ve discovered a great bargain if you get a bid that is substantially lower than other bids. Remember, you get what you pay for. If it looks too good to be true, it probably
is.
-
Make sure they have a physical location, uniformed technicians and a vehicle with professional lettering on it.
What to avoid when selecting a company in this industry:
-
A
contractor that does not show you their
contractor's license. There are many companies
that act like licensed electricians that are not
qualified or use other people's licenses.
-
A
contractor that does not show you their
insurance. If someone is injured on the job or
your property is damaged and is not insured you
may be liable. Why take that chance?
-
Contractors
that play price games. Prices should be the same
for every customer. If they haggle it might mean
someone else is a better haggler than you and
getting a better price than you are.
-
Contractors
that will not provide you a detailed estimate or
itemized contract on Company letterhead.
-
Companies
that ask for excessive deposits or cash payment
or checks made to an individual.
-
Contractors
that apply pressure.
-
Contractors
that will not let you call past customers.
-
You
get what you pay for. If you want a qualified
and licensed contractor, you may need to pay a
little more, but in most cases it is money well
spent.
-
Contractors
that make guarantees that appear too good to be
true.
-
It
is our opinion to stay away from companies where
the sales people are not qualified electricians.
Do not set yourself up for an electrical fire to
save a few dollars.
-
Companies
that do not perform criminal background checks
on their workers.
-
Faulty
electrical work can cause a fire. Please avoid a
tragic situation and make sure you hire a
licensed professional. Electrical work is not
the place to try to save a few dollars.
-
Avoid
companies that ask you to pull a permit if it's
required. They're probably not licensed.
