Corporate Certified Public Accountant

What to look for when selecting an ethical CPA:

  1. Getting a recommendation is by far the best way of making first contact with a CPA.

  2. Contact the Florida Department of Professional Regulation to make sure they're licensed.

  3. We recommend using a CPA firm that belongs to either AICPA or FIPCA. These are professional associations that subject their members to peer review.

  4. Look for a CPA firm that has a proven track record.

  5. Look for a CPA firm whose license is active.

  6. Look for a CPA firm that specializes in the field of expertise you'll need or one that's most important to you.

  7. Look for a CPA firm that you feel comfortable with. Interaction and ability to communicate is important in selecting a company in this industry.

  8. Look for a CPA firm that has experience in business and tax matters. Interview them to see if they have dealt with your type of matters in the past. Are they proactive or reactive?

  9. Look for a company that has experience dealing with the IRS on tax Audits.

Questions to ask when selecting a company in this industry:

  1. How many years of experience does the CPA you'll be working with have in business and taxes?

  2. Are they proactive or reactive?

  3. Do they belong to any professional associations such as AICPA or FIPCA?

  4. Do you provide an initial free consultation?

  5. Can you provide referrals of clients that have circumstances similar to mine?

  6. What fields of accounting do you specialize in?

  7. Do you have experience in dealing with the IRS?
