Our Story
I’m sure you or someone you know has put
your trust in the hands of someone that you wish you hadn’t, wished you
spent a little more time researching or didn’t trust the words of the
salesperson.
My wife and I made the same mistake. We
selected a Pediatrician prior to the birth of our child and they appeared
on the outside to be fine. Unfortunately, the negligence of the physician
almost cost us our child when he was two weeks old. Our story turned out
well as our son is fully recovered. That error in judgment has become our
life’s mission.
After spending years speaking to hundreds
of businesses and thousands of consumers, I realized my story is not
unique. Every minute, consumers are selecting the services of
professionals with pending or settled malpractice cases or contractors
that are unlicensed and unqualified.
At the National Association of Consumer
Fraud we are not satisfied with the conventional methods of reducing
consumer fraud. There are many organizations doing fine work to educate
consumers. Information is readily available now more than ever, yet
consumer fraud and complaints about unethical business practices are at an
all time high. We want to start at the root of the problem; the businesses
themselves. The NAACF interviewed thousands of businesses in numerous
industries throughout North Carolina and Central Florida. The results of
those interviews have been enlightening. Business owners provided us
valuable information that will benefit consumers when selecting a business
to provide a product or service. Unfortunately, we also found many of the
unethical practices and shortcuts many businesses take that are not in the
best interest of consumers.
It is the NAACF’s opinion that in order
to reduce consumer fraud, you need to take away the revenue from the
businesses committing fraud or unethical practices. If there revenue steam
is diminished, they will need to change. Through our interviews and
research, we hope to educate consumers to make sound decisions in
selecting businesses and bring revenue to the honest community minded
businesses.
Thank you for spending the time to learn
about the National Association Against Consumer Fraud and its goal of
helping consumers and ethical businesses.
